Wellesley Youth Hockey Association would like to thank the 100’s of volunteers for the enormous contributions and the giving of 1000’s of hours of their time in an effort to deliver what we think is a great hockey experience for the kids of Wellesley.

At the conclusion of 2005-2006 season, the board received feedback from parents and coaches that the players needed more ice time and professional instruction.  In the 2006-07 season, we’ve delivered 90 hours of instruction for the Learn to Skate and Mosquito programs, and a new intramural program.  For the Mite through Bantam travel team programs, we’ve delivered an average of 57 practices and 26 games along with the increased usage of professional instruction.  Unfortunately, all of this comes at a price.  Ice rental costs and league fess increase without mercy every year.  On average, a practice hour costs the program $240 an hour.  This year we are spending in excess of $190,000 on practice ice alone.  The average per game cost is $185.  Total game fees were in excess of $90,000. Wellesley Youth Hockey is a non-profit and is run as leanly as possible with over 93% of our budget committed to practice ice, league fees, and player development alone.

In order to deliver on the promises we’ve made, we need to run a financially sound organization and that means our tuition needs to keep pace with the increasing costs of running a high quality youth program.  The decision to increase tuition was a difficult, but necessary one.
